Why Convert FLAC to MP3?

The FLAC format is really good at keeping all the details of the music. This means the files are big sometimes they can be 30 to 50 megabytes for one song. The MP3 format makes the files much smaller. The music still sounds good on the headphones we use every day or the speakers, in our cars or when we stream music. Most phones and music players can play MP3 files without any trouble. This is why the MP3 format is the one that can be played on the devices.

Which Bitrate Should You Pick?

If you care about your music 320 kbps is a choice. It is the MP3 bitrate. Most people cannot tell the difference from the FLAC on regular speakers. 192 Kbps is okay for listening and it saves a lot of space. Only use bitrates if you are putting songs on an old device, with little memory.

Are Tags and Album Art Preserved?

Yes. FFmpeg's -map_metadata 0 flag carries over artist, album title, track number, and album art embedded in your FLAC directly into the MP3. You won't need to re-tag anything after converting.

How Much Smaller Will the MP3 Be?

A standard music track that is five minutes long in FLAC format is usually twenty five to forty megabytes. This gets smaller when it is in MP3 format at 320 kilobits per second it is twelve megabytes, which is about a sixty to seventy percent reduction in size. At 192 kilobits per second the music track is closer, to seven megabytes. The exact size of the music track depends on the original music recording and how much the changes.

Is My File Secure?

Your file uploads over HTTPS, gets converted by FFmpeg, is returned to your browser, then deleted immediately from our server. Nothing is stored or shared. Most tracks convert in under 30 seconds.
