Why Convert OPUS to MP3?
OPUS is a good way to make audio files small. It was made by the IETF. OPUS sounds great when the file is very small. That is why WhatsApp and Telegram and Discord use OPUS for voice messages. The problem with OPUS is that it does not work on iTunes or Windows Media Player or car stereos or most music players. If you change OPUS to MP3 then it will work on all these things. OPUS files are great. They need to be changed to MP3 so they can play on everything. OPUS is very good for making audio files but MP3 is better, for playing them on different devices.
Where Do OPUS Files Come From?
The main source of these files is voice messages. Call recordings from messaging apps. WhatsApp voice notes are stored as .opus files, and Telegram recordings are also stored as.opus files. Discord voice clips and WebRTC recordings, from browser calls store audio as OPUS files and some streaming services do the thing with OPUS files. If you have ever tried to play a voice note on your computer outside of the messaging app and it did not work this converter can help with that.
What Bitrate Should I Use for Voice Audio?
For voice recordings and messages 128 kbps is more than enough. The human voice does not need the frequency range that music does. For music content that is originally encoded as OPUS, music content like this is rare. It is possible 192 or 320 kbps will give you the best result for music content. The OPUS source for music content was probably encoded at a bitrate for music content so going higher on the MP3 output for music content will not add quality that is not already there, for music content. But it will not hurt the music content either.
